Amina Survived The Cold Hands Of Death
25 year old Amina lived with her old mother in Kasama village.
Sadly, her father had died long before she finished secondary school.
Amina’s mother sold special sticks and trimmed bamboo to make ends meet, and pay her tuition.
She was the breadwinner till a snake bit her while she worked in the forest.
Nearby neighbours helped her quickly to the most potent herbalist in the village.
She was treated. But never returned to her former self.
Well-wishers advised her to avoid work and stress. But to always rest.
She wanted the best education for her. But, the circumstances were beyond her. She aged faster. Amina had finished her secondary education before all these.
She loved photography, learnt under one of her teachers.
Though, she hadn’t mastered it. She believed she would be a great photographer someday.
She had saved enough to buy a camera while in school.
But, her mother cared more about her becoming a doctor or lawyer.
She was mocked, and ridiculed as she shared her photography skill, seeking to get customers.
She also takes on different freelance gigs as it comes. She had enough to buy a smartphone, learnt networking skills, and maximized the power of social media.
Amina cared for her mother in all of these.
But, she soon began to die. Her hopes of becoming a renowned photographer were shattered to pieces. She gave in to despair.
She was at the verge of selling off her Camera, when the news she watched shared that a popular Nigerian artiste just recognized one of her shots.
This single recognition brought her fame, limelight, and the support she never had in years.
She was invited to one of the biggest photography brands spotlight events. She shared her story, beaming with a smile.
Her aged mother was proud of her.
She from there survived the cold hands of death and lived again in the reality that she is a great photographer, and would be greater if she would never give up, no matter the challenges on her way to greatness.
